KelloggWeb3 is bringing a change in how users interact with their apps, and not every user is familiar with this blockchain environment. It is not easy for dApps to onboard users with this complicated structure and hence a lot of them fail at this stage. This is where Biconomy steps in and makes dApps more user friendly and efficient. We will start by understanding why we need Biconomy, what is Biconomy and then various functions that it provides to developers.<h1 style="margin-left:0px;">Issues in User Experience in web3</h1><ol><li>Sign-in is not just a click of a button: Unlike web2 apps, it is not possible to login to a dApp with your social logins. You need a proper web3 Authorisation, in most cases that is a web3 wallet like Metamask. Not every new user has a web3 wallet which can be used for verification.</li><li>You got a transaction; You gotta pay the Gas: While executing any transaction via a dApp a User needs to pay for ‘Gas’. Now you all already know what Gas is, hence, I am skipping that part. Not everyone holds the native cryptocurrency, sometimes not sufficient enough for executing the said transaction. Should you/your user run into such a situation; BOOM! there goes the UX down the drain.</li><li>Yo! My user got $$ only; get me some native tokens bro!: Another problem for users is the on-ramping and off-ramping. They have to signup to a different applications for this purpose and be involved in a complex process of converting their fiat to crypto or their crypto to fiat currency.</li></ol>Now let’s dive into what Biconomy is and how does it actually solve all these problems.<h1 style="margin-left:0px;">What is Biconomy</h1>Our mission at Biconomy is to empower developers to build without limits, so we can all access and benefit from a decentralised future. — Ahmed Al-Balaghi, Biconomy Co-FounderBiconomy is a developer tool. The Biconomy SDK offers non-custodial solutions for a dApp, from onboarding users to user interaction. It is a one-stop solution for dApps that want to simplify the onboarding process for new users and also reduce the complexity faced while carrying out multiple transactions. This is made possible via Smart Contract Wallets (SCW), which are constructed on top of the multi-chain Relayer Infrastructure by Biconomy.A smart contract wallet is one that is connected to each user’s EOA. It is a <a href="https://twitter.com/_BuildBear/status/1610163043463462917">non-custodial account</a> that offers more security than <a href="https://twitter.com/_BuildBear/status/1612434183858843654">EOAs</a> with a single private key. Users have the ability to deposit funds and withdraw them at any moment. It is simple to offer the user a chainless experience from within the dApp itself because the SCW address remains constant between chains. Through this SCW, dApps can create a wide range of user-specific seamless interactions using our transaction bundles.<h1 style="margin-left:0px;">Features of Biconomy</h1>Using the power of SCW and its creative implementation Biconomy is providing users with a vast range of features which solve all the problems mentioned above, these include:1) Onboarding new users without web3 AuthorizationdApps require users to login with a web3 Auth, which is mostly there web3 wallets to access any dApp, but Biconomy provides a solution for that. They can sign in to social login using Google, Facebook, or email. Then a user can either connect their external wallet or utilise social login to log into the dApp. Biconomy is using <a href="https://web3auth.io/">web3Auth</a> to produce each user’s private key individually. They can sign transactions using this key without the need for context switching or wallet pop-ups. The same account will be made for all social media accounts as long as the email address is the same.With this new users can easily access the dApp without creating any external web3 Wallet. This makes the dApp more accessible for a web2 user switching to web3 for the first time.<a href="https://decentral.games/">Decentral Games</a> is a free poker game in the metaverse. It uses the Biconomy SDK to make the sign in process easier for its users.<figure class="image image_resized" style="width:679.985px;"><img src="https://miro.medium.com/v2/resize:fit:588/1*bEo4zL9dfehLXUbeqNcT9Q.png" alt="" loading="lazy"></figure>2) Making Gasless Transactions on a dAppNot all users will have funds in their newly generated wallets to do transactions on a dApp, this can again cause a dApp to lose out on many new users. One way to solve is for the dApp to fund the transaction fees and make the entire transaction gasless for users. Gasless transactions in the Biconomy SDK take place using Account Abstraction in a non-custodial manner, this means combining the EOA and Smart Contract in 1 contract account which can do transaction with tokens and also approve new smart contracts, the private key for this account lies with the user and not the dApp. Its implementation can be understood as having a ‘dApp reserve’ which is actually the Paymaster contract. All a developer needs to do is to deposit funds in that Paymaster contract and whitelist their dApp contracts to enable gas abstraction in their dApp.This makes the dApp look like gasless to a new user and instead of paying the gas fee they have to pay a small transaction fee to the dApp that can be paid in Fiat. This reduces the burden of buying cryptocurrencies on the users end. Thus users are able to do transactions more freely and easily on a dApp.You can head over here to see how Decentraland Users Saved Over $32,000 with Gasless (<a href="http://bit.ly/3koAIOM">http://bit.ly/3koAIOM</a>)3) Paying Gas using ERC20 TokensUsers using a dApp for the first time might not have the native tokens required for paying for Gas Fee, but they might have some other ERC20 Tokens. In such cases they would either need to buy new tokens or swap their tokens for the native tokens. Once again causing the users difficulty and giving them a reason to leave the dApp. Users may easily pay for gas fees with their current token by enabling gas payments in ERC20 Tokens. Biconomy presently accepts payments for gas fees in DAI, USDC, and USDT.Biconomy’s newly enhanced relayer infrastructure is used to support this feature. A list of supported tokens is shared by the relayer, which is then presented to users of the dApp. The user has the option of paying gas fees in any supported token. The transaction is forwarded to the relayer as soon as the user approves it. The native token is used to pay for gas once the transaction has been delivered to the relayer, which then sends it to the chain. In the end, the relayer receives a reimbursement in ERC20 tokens from the user’s smart contract wallet.Apart from these features, Biconomy also present features for easing the process of on-ramping and off-ramping cryptocurrency from a chain. This is done using Transak, which is integrated in the SDK for developers to use for their dApps. This way users can convert fiat without leaving the dApp. Biconomy also offers the implementation for grouping the transactions into one, also called ‘Batch Transactions’.
